It is important to remember that majority of these scams use scare tactics with the threat of incarceration to pressure you into acting quickly without thinking and believing their ruse. The suspect has also been reported to have the victim’s personal information making the call appear legitimate. Victims are being told their warrants can be paid over the phone, by Google or Apple pay cards, gift cards, but the most common payment request the scammer asks for is crypto currencies. Upon the victim's response, the scammer is then claiming to be a Law Enforcement and that the victim has outstanding warrants that need to be paid immediately. Victims are receiving fraudulent calls, texts, or emails, from what appears to be a Law Enforcement Agency. “Spoofing/Scamming” is the process of making phone numbers (or contact information) appear to be originating from wherever the suspect chooses. The Henderson Police Department is alerting the public about recent reports of a phone/email/text scam that is “spoofing/scamming” City of Henderson residents.
